The existence of window decoration brings infinite imagination and creativity to interior design.
The pursuit of a better life drives more and more families to pay more attention to window decoration design.
Among them, drawstring window decoration is favored by many consumers for its simple design, early application, and high quality and low price.
But the following points about the hidden dangers of the rope window decoration, you have to know!
01
Distressed case
Girl accident in April
In September 2012, a 14-month-old baby girl was strangled with suffocation by pulling rope window decorations. Before the accident, the parents had put away the rope and placed it at the highest point of the window decoration, but still did not stop the tragedy. It is speculated that on the one hand, the pull rope may fall accidentally, and on the other hand, the position of the crib and the window decoration may be too close so that the baby girl can crawl and touch the tangled and knotted pull rope.
After the case, Health Canada tested the products of the same design, and the test results showed that their products met the performance standards of CWCPR.
(CWCPR: Corded Window Covering Products Regulations)
Boy accident in 20
In July 2018, a 20-month-old boy was strangled by a rope on the window decoration near the bed. According to reports, before the accident, the window decoration was in a high state and the rope has been placed at the highest point, but this has not stopped the tragedy.
Unfortunately, this product is still deemed to meet CWCPR performance standards in subsequent testing.
It can be seen from this that simply complying with previous regulations and standards cannot avoid such incidents.

New regulations in the US
According to data from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, corded window decoration has become one of the "five hidden dangers" for American families, and there are serious safety risks for babies and children.
"The new safety regulations for window decoration divide the existing U.S. market into two categories: custom and inventory, and require that all inventory items, whether sold online or offline, be improved to cordless curtains, or at least to an inaccessible height. ."
Currently, inventory products occupy 80% of the US window decoration market, and these new regulations is believed to greatly and quickly reduce the safety hazards of infants and young children.
From now on, the rope-shaped window decoration will only be used in the application of customized window decoration to meet the needs of some people, such as: the elderly, the short stature, and that window decoration in difficult-to-reach locations. The newly revised regulations have also added custom restrictions for such customization requirements, such as: the total length of the pull rope should not be higher than 40% of the total height of the visible light source (there is no limit to this), and the default tilt rod is produced to replace the pull rope.
